Job Title: Investment Forester 
Location: Atlanta, GA

Classification: Full-Time, Exempt

Reports to: Director, Portfolio Management and Dispositions

Overview: 

Domain is seeking an Investment Forester, based out of Atlanta, GA, to support the investment team in the management of over 269,000 acres of US timberland in the Southeast, Northeast, and Pacific Northwest. The applicant must have at least 3-5 years of experience in forestry, timberland investments, and/or have a suitable advanced degree.

The Investment Forester will work closely with the investment team and third-party forestry consultants to oversee property management, assist in developing and implementing forest management plans, assess operational alternatives through financial analysis, report on operations, and evaluate and recommend opportunities to increase investor returns through operational cost savings, real estate sales, and identify other value-added opportunities for the managed timberlands.  The successful candidate will be expected to grow toward a portfolio management position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Provide oversight and assist in the planning of harvests, silviculture, and land management activities.
  • Conduct site visits to inspect regional operations.
  • Assist with the development and tracking of budgets and forecasts.
  • Conduct financial analysis of investment activities and forecast asset performance.
  • Assess operational alternatives through financial analysis and make strategic recommendations to senior investment management staff.
  • Support acquisitions, dispositions, and client information requests.
  • Evaluate and present additional value-add opportunities to enhance property performance.
  • Assist with annual forest inventory and valuation efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and national forestry laws, including timber harvesting regulations and environmental protections.
  • Develop and maintain professional working relationships with consultants, land brokers, and other service providers and industry professionals.

Skills and Abilities Required: 

  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and act and operate independently with minimal direction.
  • Detail oriented, organized, and willing to be hands-on.
  • Sensitive to deadlines with schedule flexibility to meet them.
  • Microsoft Office (Heavy emphasis on Excel).
  • GIS (ArcGIS Pro, etc.).
  • Forestry operations and/or investment experience a plus.

 

 

 

Education and Experience Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Forest Management, Natural Resource Management, or related fields (MBA would be a plus but is not required)
  • 3+ years of experience in forestry, timberland investment, or related position or suitable advanced degree
  • Must pass background checks customary for an SEC registered investment adviser.

Physical Demands and Environment:

  • Must be able to navigate to, tour, and walk large tracts of timberland as needed.
  • A minimum of 6 weeks domestic US travel annually, including air travel.
  • On occasion there may be a need to move or lift objects up to fifty lbs.
