What We Can Achieve Together:

The Land Conservation Coordinator develops, manages, and advances conservation programs with emphasis on fire and invasive species management for The Nature Conservancy’s (TNC’s) central Florida preserves and with conservation partners in the wider central Florida landscape. The Conservation Coordinator addresses critical threats to natural systems and individual species and fosters cross-site learning among conservation community members. They develop and implement conservation strategies and secure public and private support for TNC conservation priorities. 

Additional duties include participating in community engagement, ensuring the maintenance of preserve areas frequented by the visiting public, coordinating multiple projects, serving as a training cadre member in Center for Conservation Initiatives (CCI) and partner stewardship courses, setting deadlines, and managing projects to completion. This position is part of the Stewardship and Field Program (SAF) and is located at the Disney Wilderness Preserve (DWP) in Kissimmee, FL.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences/natural resource management and 3 years’ experience in natural resource management or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • NWCG qualified as Single Resource Boss (ENGB, FIRB, etc.) or State Certified Burn Boss with 5 years’ experience and 50+ bossed.
  • 1 year experience managing staff or volunteers and training others.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • 5-7 years’ experience in natural resource management, similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to obtain NWCG ICT4 within 1 year of hire and be able to show documentation related to prerequisite positions and task books.
  • Ability to achieve RXB2 within 2 years of hire.
  • Ability to obtain Intermediate Faller (FAL2) within 2 years of hire and be able to show documentation related to prerequisite positions and task books.
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems software such as ARCview and mobile GIS software such as field maps.
  • First-aid Certification/CPR Certificate.
  • Ability to obtain Florida Certified Pesticide Applicator license within six (6) months of hire with category (21) for licensing of commercial applicators of herbicides in natural areas.
  • Knowledge and related qualifications in invasive species prevention and control.
  • Knowledge of grazing lands management and integration of grazing into natural resource management programs
  • Excellent communication skills via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.

$53,000 to $63,000 annual base salary
