The DNRC Eastern Land Office is responsible for the administration of Trust Land and Forestry Division programs in Carter, Custer, Dawson, Fallon, Garfield, McCone, Powder River, Prairie, Richland, Rosebud and Wibaux counties. The Eastern Land Office is responsible for the management and administration of approximately 1,234,000 surface acres of School Trust Lands and 1,316,000 acres of Trust mineral estate contained within the Office boundaries.
The Land Use Specialist has operational responsibility for assigned departmental programs and field activities, property and personnel within the defined geographical region of the Eastern Land Office. The LUS performs diverse, scientific professional tasks in the design, implementation, coordination and evaluation of all assigned natural resource management programs within the office.

Approximately 50% travel time with occasional overnight travel.
Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):
The knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor of Science Degree in a Natural Resource Management field (preferably Range Management, Natural Resource Management, Agronomy, Ag Business or Agriculture), and two years of progressively responsible administrative and professional experience, of which involve similar program experience.
The Land Use Specialist must be highly skilled in oral and written communications and proficient in map reading, aerial photo interpretation, Global Positioning System and associate software, in the use of soil testing/profiling and engineering equipment, radio equipment, office equipment and software, wireless devices such as iPads and cellular phones and associated software applications, and the State Trust Lands Management System. Must also be able to safely operate four-wheel drive vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, and possibly watercraft.
Incumbent must be able to physically complete all assigned field work. This requires the ability to work safely and independently in rough terrain and all-weather conditions. Incumbent must be able to analyze and make sound decisions independently of direction from managers at times.
Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States. A valid driver's license is required with less than 12 conviction points in the most recent completed 36 months.
