Job Description:

The Department is hiring two positions for professional forestry work within the Lands Program of the Bureau of Resource Management. One position will be based in Sidney and the other in Enfield. As members of an interdisciplinary team, the positions design, develop and implement timber harvesting projects, and other management actions designed to enhance, maintain and create wildlife habitat on 65 Wildlife Management Areas (“WMAs”) covering over 120,000 acres state-wide. The positions provide information relative to habitat management objectives and conduct and oversee fieldwork to attain information necessary to manage wildlife habitat.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or directly related field involving inspection and supervision of harvesting operations, surveying, cruising, timber marking, and general forest management planning. Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Miscellaneous:

Responsibilities include the design, development and implementation of management and operational plans for forested and non-forested habitats including management road construction and maintenance. They will coordinate and conduct timber cruises and vegetation surveys, conduct marking and layout of trees to be harvested, and oversee and inspect contractor performance.

 

Additional responsibilities include developing and overseeing contracts for projects ranging from apple tree pruning to boundary line survey and maintenance, and field mowing. Conducting such work is also an expectation for the position. The positions will be coordinating with Department staff, local, state, and federal agencies on wildlife habitat issues and management making effective oral and written communication skills a must.

Salary:
$49,046.40 - $66,164.80 annually
