Job Description:

The Department of Lands has an opening for two (2) Lands Resource Supervisor - Forest Management positions located at our Clearwater Supervisory Office in Orofino, Idaho and Payette Lakes Supervisory Area in McCall, Idaho.

Starting pay is $29.75 DOE.

This position is necessary for the Clearwater Area and Payette Lakes Area to meet its forest management objectives as currently outlined in the FAMP as well as help to administer all other programs within the Area. On the ground management includes supervision responsibilities for timber sale preparation, timber sale administration, road maintenance, forest management projects, hazard management projects, forest inventory work and development, securing road easements for access to endowment land and administering and coordinating multiple Road Use, Land Use permits and Leases. This person will supervise 4 or 5 foresters, depending on the year. Also included would be working closely with the regional Lands Resource Specialist, Lands and Waterways and the Area Manager on administering all other programs associated with the department in their respective forester’s unit. Interaction with the general public as well as purchasers, agency cooperators and contractors are a key part of this job.

Experience in:

 

Preparing and administering contracts including implementation and evaluation of contracts as well as field inspection, compliance and reporting requirements

Interpreting public land survey legal descriptions, aerial imagery and topographic and property ownership maps

Using Geographic Information System (GIS) principles and data models

Managing projects including developing and evaluating projects, preparing reports and making recommendations

Making oral presentations and providing technical assistance and program information to management, clients or public groups

Performing financial analyses to determine cost/benefit of project proposals

Interpreting and applying state and federal laws, rules and regulations related to natural resource management activities

Writing technical reports

Good knowledge of:

Effective supervisory practices

Conflict resolution methods

Other:

Possession of a valid driver's license

Specialty Minimum Qualifications:

 

Good knowledge of:

Forest management principles

Service & Regulatory Forestry (Forest Stewardship and Forest Practices Regulation)

Idaho Forest Practices Act and associated administrative rules

Forestry best management practices (BMPs) and forest management principles

Silviculture, dendrology, forest mensuration, soil science, and forest harvesting methods

Some knowledge of:

Forest entomology, forest pathology and land survey techniques

Experience:

Writing and reviewing forest management plans

Possession of:

Bachelors or Masters degree in Forest Management, or related fields
