Job Description:

Lands Resource Supervisor Responsibilities:

 

Supervises professional and seasonal staff in the management of forest and other resources on state endowment land. Including:

Hiring

Training

Assigning work

Evaluating performance

Resolving problems

Coordinates the area's forest management projects including site preparation, planting, competitive vegetation control, pest control, and stocking surveys.

Inspects fieldwork and reviews documents for technical requirements, compliance with state and federal laws, and fairness in lease/contract administration.

Prepares and monitors budgets, reviews and approves expenditures, and maintains equipment and supplies.

Facilitates communications between area and bureau staff on emerging issues and complex concerns, requesting technical expertise or guidance with the interpretation of laws and department policies as needed.

Works with private landowners, contractors, county officials, federal agencies, state agencies, and the general public to provide information, respond to requests, and to coordinate emergency response.

May also represent IDL on committees and at public meetings.

Participates in wildfire suppression response as needed.

 

 

Qualifications:

Experience in:

Preparing and administering contracts including implementation and evaluation of contracts as well as field inspection, compliance and reporting requirements

Interpreting public land survey legal descriptions, aerial imagery and topographic and property ownership maps

Using Geographic Information System (GIS) principles and data models

Managing projects including developing and evaluating projects, preparing reports and making recommendations

Making oral presentations and providing technical assistance and program information to management, clients or public groups

Performing financial analyses to determine cost/benefit of project proposals

Interpreting and applying state and federal laws, rules and regulations related to natural resource management activities

Writing technical reports

 

Good knowledge of:

Effective supervisory practices

Conflict resolution methods

 

Other:

Possession of a valid driver's license

Specialty Minimum Qualifications:

 

Good knowledge of:

Forest management principles

Service & Regulatory Forestry (Forest Stewardship and Forest Practices Regulation)

Idaho Forest Practices Act and associated administrative rules

Forestry best management practices (BMPs) and forest management principles

Silviculture, dendrology, forest mensuration, soil science, and forest harvesting methods

Some knowledge of:

Forest entomology, forest pathology and land survey techniques

Experience:

Writing and reviewing forest management plans

Bachelors or Masters degree in Forest Management, or related fields
