Deadline: Fri, 09/30/2022 - 12:00pm Employer: Mississippi State University Deer Lab Job Field: Wildlife Job Type: Seasonal, Temporary, Internship Location: Mississippi Location Detail: Northern Job Description: This is a 4-month seasonal position working with Mississippi State University. Lead technician will coordinate capture and collaring adult white-tailed deer and wild pigs using dart rifles, suspended net projectors, and corral traps. Position duties include but are not limited to: 1) working closely with Mississippi State University personnel, Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks biologists, and private landowners to coordinate capture efforts and 2.) overseeing technician scheduling and daily responsibilities. The position will start 1 October 2022. Applicants must have experience with archery hunting or previous experience with wildlife capture AND chemical immobilization. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or upper level status in wildlife biology, ecology, or related discipline. Applicants MUST have a valid driver's license. Preference will be given to candidates with ungulate capture and immobilization experience, field research background, and archery hunting experience. Candidates must have strong leadership abilities verifiable through listed references. Candidates must be able to take detailed field notes and follow strict capture protocols. Applicants must be able to carry 50 lbs. of equipment two hundred yards over rough ground. Candidates should be prepared to work at night, on weekends, irregular hours, and live in close quarters as part of a team. An excellent work ethic is mandatory. Position will be filled as suitable candidates are found Salary: $16-17/hour. Benefits: Provided housing is pending but likely.
