Job Description Independent Stave Company seeks a self-motivated, hardworking individual to join our procurement team as a full-time log buyer. As a Log Buyer, you will be responsible for purchasing logs, developing a supplier base, and reporting all activities required to the Log Procurement Manager. This role is an excellent fit for some with a forestry background or experience with natural resource management. This position requires an individual to work independently and have strong time-management skills and work ethic to succeed as a buyer of logs or timber sales. Travel is required. Location: This position will office at our future buying yard site in Georgia. Compensation: $40,000-$65,000 base salary, not including bonuses. Requirements Essential Duties: Responsible for purchasing logs using the company buying standard. Develop and achieve the purchasing goals and objectives for a defined territory. Establish positive long-term supplier relations through ethical, consistent, and professional performance. Develop and maintain prospective suppliers by making calls and conducting site visits. Provide timely and accurate reporting of purchases, suppliers, and all territory management activities as required. Work closely with management to develop assigned territory in line with the company's objectives. Qualifications: Previous log buying experience is preferred. Forestry-related or natural resource management experience is a plus 2-3 years experience working in the wood products industry or forestry-related Well-developed organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making ability. Computer proficiency in MS Office, Excel, e-mail, and Internet functions. Must be able to travel and occasionally stay overnight.
