Deadline: Sat, 10/05/2024 - 12:00pm Employer: University of Georgia Job Field: Wildlife Job Type: Seasonal, Temporary, Internship Location: Georgia Location Detail: Rome, GA Job Description: Summary The University of Georgia, Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources (http://warnell.uga.edu/) and The Jones Center at Ichauway are offering four full-time seasonal position conducting camera trap surveys of mesocarnivores in Georgia. This position begins October 1st, 2024, and will end on March 31st, 2025. The employee will assist with research evaluating camera trapping survey designs with the overall goal of identifying a protocol that increases the efficiency of mesocarnivore monitoring across the state. Activities will include, but are not limited to, setting, and maintaining 200 wildlife camera traps across the state and organizing and processing camera trap data, as well as conducting vegetation surveys at camera locations. The field work take place across 20 sites throughout Georgia. Lodging and a field vehicle will be provided. Qualifications: Education and experience: Applicants must have some college-level coursework in ecology, wildlife biology, or a related field. Applicants should be comfortable performing data entry and other computer-based work. A valid class C driver’s license is required. Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to individuals who have experience setting camera traps in the field and processing camera trap images. Strong communication and organization skills are necessary. Experience hiking and operating a 4-wheel drive vehicle is also preferred. Physical demand: Applicants should be in good physical condition and able to work in hot, humid field conditions where encounters with snakes, biting insects, etc. are possible. Miscellaneous: Breakdown of responsibilities: 50% time performing field research; 50% time performing data-entry or other computer-based work.
