Job Description:

The primary purpose of the position is to undertake complex projects, conduct required research to provide up-to-date advice on policy, coordinate performance reporting, serve as the Station’s FOIA expert, provide expert advice and oversight of administrative and planning processes that support resource allocation across multiple programs and scientific disciplines, and supervise an administrative team.

Duties include but are not limited to: Works in collaboration with other Station leaders and the national office to enhance the accountability, transparency, and delivery of services in a multiagency land management mission environment which serves the needs and interests of a diverse public. Analyzes and evaluates on a quantitative/qualitative basis the effectiveness of the Station’s lines of research and other aspects of science delivery in meeting established goals and objectives. Performs analysis for management information requirements for highly complex issues. Develops, analyzes, and evaluates new or modified program/management policies, regulations, goals, or objectives. Develops procedures and systems for assessing the effectiveness of programs/management processes for controversial or highly complex issues. Collects and analyzes pertinent organizational data and information; develops statistical and narrative data to justify any changes and recommendations; prepares and presents briefings and leads presentations for top management. Collects, reviews, evaluates, and interprets data for complex issues, including Freedom of Information Act USDA FOREST SERVICE Southern Research Station USDA is an equal opportunity provider, employer, and lender. Coordinates responses to deputy-area, agency, departmental, and congressional requests for information such as annual Station performance and accomplishment reports, national award and recognition solicitations. Identifies, compiles, and presents information to inform Station Leadership Team decisions. Serve as a Station expert on project performance measures and accountability to convey organizational performance. Performs other duties as assigned

Miscellaneous:

SRS is one of five regional units that comprise the USDA Forest Service Research and Development organization. SRS maintains 15 research units and 19 experimental forests across a 13-state territory. SRS has a cadre of diverse and highly trained employees, including 100+ research scientists, developing science-based knowledge and technology to help inform decisions about natural resource management, use, and sustainability. Long-term studies combined with 21st century innovations provide the foundation of a responsive, forest-based research program that continues to expand into new fields and address emerging challenges, including how forces such as climate and land use change, population growth, invasive plants and pathogens, and fire affect the provision of timber, wildlife, clean air and water, recreation, and many other ecosystem services. Salary:
$66,214 to $103,176 per year
