Job Description, Responsibilities and Required Qualifications or Skills

Under direct supervision, the incumbent will be responsible for furthering the goals and objectives of the Coastal Resources Division’s (CRD) Georgia Coastal Management Program, focusing on expanding the scientific understanding of coastal wetland habitats to protect, evaluate and/or improve wetland habitats for living organisms along the coast. The primary duties will be to conduct coastal wetland habitat assessments, including data collection in the field and data analysis, maintain field equipment, provide technical assistance to partners and stakeholders on coastal wetland restoration and enhancement projects, coordinate with academic partners to catalogue research and monitoring efforts, and communicate results to the public through report writing and presentations. The incumbent will participate in special assignments, provide logistical support related to meetings of the Coastal Advisory Council and provide support for CRD’s annual Coastfest.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

Preference may be given to applicants with experience in the following: 

  • Working in coastal wetlands
  • Wetland monitoring protocols
  • Using GIS software
  • Data analysis and technical report writing
  • Oral and written communications, including grant writing, public speaking, or communicating with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Master’s Degree in Biology or a related field
