Job Description:

The Research and Public Service Manager position will build and manage collaborative relationships between military installations, the local governments and communities that support them, and the University of Georgia. The applicant will manage research activities; outreach, engagement and collaboration activities; grant writing, and other projects with one or more military installations in the South Atlantic Coastal Region – principally Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. This position would coordinate engagement, research, and project development working closely with Institute of Government faculty and staff, as well as those in the Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems, Georgia Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant – specifically the Coastal Resilience DoD Liaison, and other partners. The position will facilitate existing research and planning projects and assist in the development and promotion of projects to enhance the resilience of communities and military installations, and the infrastructure systems, while promoting the goals and values of the community. The applicant will develop internal and external client relationships, communicate with clients to explain proposals, present research findings, and discuss project status. This position will identify funding opportunities for projects and draft proposals or other documents to secure such funding. In addition, the position will provide general project support for the Institute of Government’s Planning and Environmental Services Unit and the Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems, which includes organizing meetings, working with clients and stakeholders, developing and implementing training and outreach materials, and assisting with educational and training events.

Qualifications:
  • Ability to apply an advanced professional knowledge of communication and collaboration strategies and applied research and policy analysis.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public. Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate ideas, collaborate with clients and team members, and enlist buy-in from different groups.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to remember detail, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Can shift gears comfortably.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to outstanding service, accuracy, and strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
