Job Description:

This position is part of a collaborative effort among the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), and Quail Forever (QF) to further the delivery of monarch butterfly and pollinator conservation programs in Northwest Missouri. The successful applicant will serve as a Coordinating Biologist responsible for the delivery and implementation of pollinator-associated Farm Bill conservation programs, specifically the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) Monarch-PRIME. Additionally, this position will provide biological/wildlife technical assistance to farmers, ranchers and other landowners primarily interested in early successional habitat for the monarch butterfly and other upland wildlife species.

 

This position will be located within an NRCS Field Office and will provide conservation services and delivery throughout Northwest Missouri. The successful candidate will be an employee of and be supervised by Pheasants Forever, Inc. with daily instruction and leadership provided by the Missouri State Coordinator, MDC, and NRCS partners.

· Provide technical assistance (wildlife and monarch butterfly habitat focus) and guidance to landowners, government agencies, non-government organizations, and others (training will be provided to USDA, PF/QF, MDC, and other local and state agencies and organizations).

· Coordinate the delivery and implementation of the Monarch PRIME - RCPP throughout Northwest Missouri and utilize conservation programs and practices available in cooperation with NRCS District Conservationist, State Fish and Wildlife Agency partners, and others.

· Assist in the development of RCPP program policy and associated guides, tools, and resources to aid in the delivery of monarch butterfly and pollinator habitat.

· Complete applications, contracts, reviews, and other required documentation for conservation programs offered under the RCPP.

· Work to promote the Monarch PRIME - RCPP across the State of Missouri through various media outlets, landowner workshops, and partner meetings.

· Communicate program requirements, complete site visits to determine eligibility, and develop plans and contracts for applicants enrolling in USDA Conservation Programs or other state and local conservation programs.

· Perform annual habitat monitoring on acres enrolled in RCPP projects.

· Coordinate with Missouri Monarch Coordinator and Monarch Collaborative on additional efforts related to conservation delivery and habitat restoration for monarchs.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

· Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with landowners and partner agencies.

· Ability to work independently with little supervision and with diverse clientele.

· Knowledge of wildlife ecology, wetland and grassland management including the ability to utilize various habitat management tools and techniques in the development of management plans.

· Knowledge of conservation and wildlife programs provided by Federal (i.e. Farm Bill, US Fish and Wildlife Service), State agencies and PF/QF within the State of Missouri. In addition, knowledge of how these programs are implemented in an agricultural and/or grassland landscape is desired.

· Ability to apply and use GIS tools (i.e. GPS, ARC Map, etc.).

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Strong organizational skills.

· Valid driver’s license required; work vehicle provided; some use of personal vehicle required (mileage reimbursement provided).

· Able to obtain USDA Federal Security Clearance

Salary:
