Job Type:
Assistantship
Location:

Location Detail:

Job Description:

The College of Forestry, Agriculture & Natural Resources at the University of Arkansas at Monticello is seeking applicants for a M.S. Assistantship available beginning August 16, 2024. The assistantship is half time and carries an annual stipend of $18,000 plus tuition.

Project: We are seeking a self-motivated M.S. student with an interest in soil science and soil carbon to assist with a Climate Smart Project in quantification of the net change in C stocks (additionality) associated with Bottomland Hardwood (BLH) restoration compared to the existing agricultural land use (the reference).

Carbon sequestration and storage resulting from BLH restoration will be tracked in several C pools—soil organic matter, live tree biomass, understory, deadwood, litter, and harvested wood products. Focus will be on the net change in C stocks at the hardwood restoration/plantation sites and associated with the production, distribution, consumption, and disposal of products produced from biomass-derived from BLH restoration. Both annual increment and cumulative stock of carbon will be measured in metric tons (Mg) of CO2 equivalent (CO2e) on a per-ha basis up to 100 years.
