Job Description:

Drs. Heather Mathewson and Adam Mitchell of the Department of Wildlife and Natural Resources at Tarleton State University (Stephenville, TX) are seeking 2 ambitious and motivated MS students to contribute to a collaborative research project with Tarleton's College of Engineering and UT San Antonio to investigate the potential risk of various erosion control products to wildlife. The project in question will provide Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) with recommendations on erosion control materials that reduce risk to wildlife, remain effective for erosion control, and contain biodegradable materials. Possible research includes social science aspects, field surveys, and field experiments on how mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and/or invertebrates respond to erosion control products on highways, roads, and rights-of-way.

Qualifications:

B.S. in Ecology, Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, or related fields with GPA of at least 3.0 required (4.0 scale). Students should be able to work under adverse field conditions (hot summers); work independently and as a productive collaborator with a research team of undergraduates and volunteers; experience handling or surveying wild animals; ability to drive long distances and possess a current U.S. driver’s license. Preference will be given to students with experience in data management and analysis as well as strong verbal and written communication skills. GRE is not required.

Salary:
$18,000/year and out-of-state tuition waived
Benefits:

Students will receive an annual stipend of $18,000 with out-of-state tuition waived; in-state tuition and university fees still apply. This will be a full-time, 12-month position for 2-year contracted period. Students will receive assistance through the hire of field technicians, compensation for travel and lab costs, and funding to present research at a professional conference of their choice.
