Thesis work will focus on surveys for and monitoring of the endangered Texas Poppy Mallow (Callirhoe scabriuscula). This project is funded by a grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Additional research opportunities on aspects of Texas Poppy Mallow ecology will be considered depending on the applicant’s skill set and interests. Currently, funding support is for two years. Qualifications: Prospective applicants should have research interests in botany, native plant conservation, and/or plant ecology and should have strong field skills. Applicants should have a B.S. in biology or a related field. Successful applicants must score 565 or higher using the following formula: ([60 hours undergraduate GPA multiplied by 100] + [Verbal GRE Score + Quantitative GRE Score]). Applicants with previous experience surveying for rare plants are preferred, however a willingness to learn and a strong work ethic are more important than experience.
