Job Description:

A Master of Science Research Assistantship is available with Dr. Benjamin Knapp (Associate Professor of Silviculture, School of Natural Resources, University of Missouri) and Dr. Joshua Puhlick (Silviculturist, Ecological Silviculture Lab, The Jones Center at Ichauway). The successful applicant will evaluate the use of silvicultural treatments to enhance structure in multi-aged, longleaf pine stands. The project also involves using tree ring analysis to determine recruitment trends in these same stands. After completing course work at the University of Missouri, the student will conduct field work at The Jones Center at Ichauway. The Jones Center at Ichauway is a 28,500-acre research site in southwestern Georgia with diverse forest types including longleaf pine. On-site housing will be provided while the student is conducting fieldwork at the center.

 

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry, Ecology, or a related field. Applicants must have a strong desire to work in the field and laboratory and are expected to publish their research findings in peer-reviewed journals. Previous experience with research, data analysis, and data management skills are preferred. The student must also possess a valid driver's license.

Financial support is available for two years, starting in fall 2022, and includes a stipend ($23,000 per year) and tuition support. The successful applicant also may have the opportunity to gain field experience at The Jones Center at Ichauway during the summer of 2022.
