The student will join a vibrant lab interested in population ecology, life history evolution, trophic interactions, and wildlife management. Housed within the department of Fish, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology, students can choose from a major offered by the department or the Graduate Degree Program in Ecology. Students can also become exposed to an array of interdisciplinary topics across the Warner College of Natural Resources and CSU more generally, while enjoying the vibrant town of Fort Collins and the Rocky Mountains. The selected student will help lead a long-term study of black brant ecology in western Alaska, and will address novel topics at the intersection of global change, migration, natural selection, population dynamics, and ecosystem processes. CoPIs on this project include Dr. Lise Aubry at CSU, Dr. Thomas Riecke at the University of Montana, and Dr. Jim Sedinger at the University of Nevada Reno. Degree in biology, ecology, wildlife management, statistics, or related field Self-motivated, independent, and creative thinkers that are enthusiastic about pursuing a career in ecology, evolutionary biology, wildlife management, or waterfowl conservation. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: PhD applicants should have documented experience publishing as first author in the peer-reviewed literature MS applicants should have documented experience with communicating an undergraduate or post-baccalaureate research project Experience working in remote settings and overcoming the challenges presented by these situations Experience leading and/or managing personnel conducting wildlife field projects Experience capturing and banding birds Experience with capture-mark-recapture statistics Experience with mathematical models used to study population ecology or related disciplines Experience programming in R, the BUGS language, or other platforms often used in ecology (e.g., STAN, Python, MATLAB).
