Employer UGA Warnell Forest Biometrics Group Job Description, Responsibilities and Required Qualifications or Skills The Forest Biometrics Group at the University of Georgia (UGA) is accepting applications for an M.S. Research Assistantship under the supervision of Dr. Sheng-I Yang. The student will work a research project focused on tropical forest growth and yield modeling. The project aims to develop statistical models for predicting forest growth and yield in tropical ecosystems and to evaluate the impacts of environmental factors, such as climate, topography, and disturbances, on forest dynamics. The student will collaborate with scientists from the USDA Forest Service, including the Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) Program and the International Institute of Tropical Forestry (IITF). The study area includes Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and U.S. territories and commonwealths in the Pacific region. The project involves more than 20 years of long-term forest measurements across over 300 tree species, which provides a unique opportunity to work with large-scale, long-term forest datasets. The incumbent will be responsible for presenting research results at professional meetings, publishing relevant work in peer-reviewed journals, and assisting with undergraduate education. The position can begin in Spring or Fall 2027.
