Andersonville National Historic Site is located in south central Georgia. Andersonville National Historic Site began as a stockade built about 18 months before the end of the U.S. Civil War to hold Union Army prisoners captured by Confederate soldiers. The site is a Civil War prisoner-of-war camp, it commemorates the sacrifices borne by American prisoners not only in the 1861-65 conflict but in all wars. The prison site is partially reconstructed. It includes the National Prisoner of War Museum and an active cemetery, Andersonville National Cemetery.Today, Andersonville National Historic Site comprises three distinct components: the former site of Camp Sumter military prison, the Andersonville National Cemetery, and the National Prisoner of War Museum, which opened in 1998 to honor all U.S. prisoners of war in all wars. For more information about ACE, please visit: usaconservation.org Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $560/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly. They will also receive a $650 travel allowance to aid in the costs of relocation and commuting to the duty station. Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the member and not provided by ACE or NPS. Position Description: The Member will work under the supervision of the Curator, and generally perform work related to curatorial and collection management. There is a focus on accountability, preservation, and accessibility of museum collections. The Member will assist with identifying and cataloging museum collections and supporting the long term preservation of museum collections. Duties may include: The Member will catalog 300 to 500 museum items into the museum collection following National Park Service Museum Handbook procedures. Catalog data will be entered into the Interior Collection Management System (ICMS). The Member will perform museum housekeeping as outlined in the Andersonville National Historic Site's Housekeeping Plan. The Member will perform museum integrated pest management as outlined in the Andersonville National Historic Site's Integrated Pest Management Plan (IPM) and enter collected data into park's IPM database. The Member will perform environmental monitoring of collection spaces as outlined in Integrated Pest Management Plan using Hoboware software and creating monthly graphs of data collected. The Member will assist curator in accountability of collections while performing the annual museum inventories. The Member will write an article detailing their experiences learned from the Membership. The Member will upgrade housing of museum objects for proper storage and preservation of collection. This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.
