Job Description:

Entry level position with potential for growth to a full-time salaried position after a 6 month evaluation period.

Beech Hollow Farm is an innovative wildflower nursery focused on growing plants for restoration and habitat creation projects. Its mission is to produce high quality, locally sourced plant material to restore the Georgia Piedmont. We are currently seeking an energetic individual with practical nursery/greenhouse experience to meet the needs of a growing native plant nursery. This is an excellent opportunity for someone starting off in the industry that would like to work in a beautiful environment, with a team dedicated to the promotion and preservation of Georgia’s amazing flora. Responsibilities:

Nursery Crew team members work as needed on daily tasks that will include (but are not limited to):  Media mixing, seeding trays, up-potting, sexual and asexual plant propagation, winterizing, watering, sanitation, weed identification and control, pest ID and control, installation of plans/bed design, irrigation maintenance, weekend sales, loading and unloading plants to/from trailer, debris/compost operations, seed collection, cleaning, and packaging, record keeping.

Hours and Wages:

  • $15/hour, 8-24 hours per week.  Advancement opportunities are available. 
  • Regular and consistent scheduled work hours.

Qualifications:

Position Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Experience with or personal interest in organic farming or gardening practices.
  • Basic writing skills and record keeping, basic computer skills, ability to communicate effectively by email.
  • Willing attitude: eager to learn, able to read and research to increase skill sets.
  • Basic knowledge of working with garden hand tools (shovel, pick, hoe, rake, etc.)
  • Knowledge of basic safety protocols for hand tools, farm equipment.
  • Must be physically able to complete tasks effectively, including but not limited to the ability to:
    • handle working outside in the elements and all seasons in Georgia.
    • stand for extended periods, as well as kneel for extended periods.
    • lift 40 pounds; must understand basic body mechanics to work smart and avoid injury.
  • Relevant education (in areas including but not limited to: Conservation, Horticulture, Greenhouse Operations, Organic Farming, Ecology, Forestry, Master Gardener Program, Environmental Studies) is a plus. 
Salary:
Starts at $15/hour. Advancement opportunities available.
