Job Description:

MAJOR DUTIES:

J. Strom Thurmond Project is part of the Savannah River Basin. Along with Lakes Hartwell and Richard B. Russell, Lake Thurmond is part of a system of large multipurpose projects located on the Savannah River bordering Georgia and South Carolina. This position serves as a Natural Resource Specialist as part of a multi-disciplinary team for the Thurmond Project with the purpose of providing natural resource management for 150,000 plus acres of land and water. Duties entail a mission to manage and conserve natural resources, consistent with ecosystem principles, while providing quality sustainable public outdoor recreation experiences, contract administration, environmental stewardship and environmental compliance. This position coordinates planning and execution of all activities related to one or more of the following programs: shoreline and outgrant management, forestry, fisheries and wildlife management, shoreline stabilization, pest control, soil conservation, boundary surveillance, recreation and park administration, contract administration, historic properties protection, public education and interpretation, visitor assistance and public safety.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in an outdoor and office setting.

 

WORK SCHEDULES:

Full Time (40 hours per week or 80 hours bi-weekly)

Some weekend and holiday work may be required.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

 

1. Must have a Bachelor’s degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines, or a combination of education and appropriate experience.

 

2. Citizenship Requirements: Must be a U.S. citizen.

 

3. You will also be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency

(Knowledge, skills, and abilities) in the following areas:

 

- Knowledge, skills and experience working with diverse Natural Resource Management

Programs: Shoreline and Outgrant Management

- Ability to Communicate Orally and in Writing.

- Teamwork

- Experience with tools/equipment and their maintenance, necessary to accomplish

Natural Resource Management work.

 

4. Employment of Relatives: In accordance with 5 CFR part 310, an employee may work in the same agency with a relative when there is no direct reporting and the relative is not in a position to influence or control the individual’s appointment within the agency.

 

5. Other Requirements

· Personnel security investigation required

· Must be capable of obtaining a motorboat operator’s license within one year of appointment

· License/Certification: Valid State Driver’s License

· Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration

· Direct Deposit of Pay is required

Salary:
$36,118 - $71,146
Benefits:

Employees in this position are eligible for federal benefits, holiday pay and earned leave. Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances may be authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations and an agency determination that a PCS move is in the Government Interest.
