Job Description:

The Natural Resources Specialist will be part of World Tree’s Operations Department in the Southeast U.S., playing a pivotal role visiting Paulownia tree farms and tree nurseries and working with our partner farmers to provide technical advice, gather data, monitor progress and develop action plans for improving results.

 

The Specialist will work with our team to engage future potential farmer partners and evaluate potential farm sites to add to our growing list of farms.

World Tree provides training and guidance in the science and practice of growing Paulownia, a collaborative and supportive team environment and an opportunity to make a difference for our farmers and the environment.

 

Duties/Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Advising and providing technical support in tree and farm management to our growers

• Collecting and recording detailed tree farm and tree farmer data

• Evaluating tree performance including data collection of survival rates, mortality, DBH, tree heights, biomass accumulation, carbon sequestration rates and more

• Utilizing forest measurement software, grading scales and field data recording instruments

• Utilizing GIS programs to create a variety of forest management maps

• Providing routine reporting in multiple company information systems

• Effectively interacting with landowners and farmers

• Interacting remotely and in-person with prospective tree farmers to inform and evaluate them and their property

• Participating in special projects and workstreams as needed to help the Operations Department efficiently accomplish key tasks and company goals

• Monitoring World Tree's quality standards for trees produced in the nursery and delivered to farm owners

• Working as part of our technical team to continuously improve our program

 

Required Skills/Abilities

• Experience with GIS, data collection methods and statistical analysis

• Excellent research and report-writing skills

• Highly self-motivated, personable and relationship-driven

• Excellent communication, attention to detail and critical thinking skills

• Operate independently with minimal supervision

• A vehicle with insurance, a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive over long periods of time

• Ability to stand/walk outside in hot and cold weather for extended periods of time

• Ability to work productively from home and while traveling

• Ability to use portable technology such as GPS devices

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel

 

Education

BS in Forestry, Agronomy, Agriculture, Environmental Sciences or related field from an accredited university

 

Preferred Experience/Skills/Abilities

• Experience performing field work in Forestry, Agroforestry, Agriculture or other related industry

• Professional experience or internship in forest plantation management

• Experience working with private landowners in the U.S.

 

Reporting to: Director of Forestry Operations, USA

Location: Southeastern U.S.

Duration: Permanent

Required Travel: Auto travel in the Southeast U.S.

Qualifications:

Education

BS in Forestry, Agronomy, Agriculture, Environmental Sciences or related field from an accredited university

 

Preferred Experience/Skills/Abilities

• Experience performing field work in Forestry, Agroforestry, Agriculture or other related industry

• Professional experience or internship in forest plantation management

• Experience working with private landowners in the U.S.

 

Salary:
Pay Range: $40,000 to $50,000
