The Center for Natural Resources Management on Military Lands at Auburn University provides assistance to military partners by providing a range of environmental services.  The Center has a long-standing partnership with the Natural Resources Management Branch at Fort Benning, Georgia.  Among other services, the Center hires natural resources specialists and technicians to work alongside federal civilian foresters, wildlife biologists, and technicians working on a wide range of forestry and wildlife-related tasks, including forest inventory, endangered species surveys, prescribed burning, nuisance wildlife control, game management, and habitat management.  We are hiring temporary Specialist-level positions to work for up to four months.  From these temporary positions, we will be selecting to fill more permanent positions with Auburn University based at Fort Benning.  Many of our past employees have become federal employees as foresters, wildlife biologists, and technicians.  The primary duties of the positions will be:

  • Preparing areas for prescribed burning by using a backpack blower and raking and/or burning around utility poles, dead trees, buildings, or other assets.
  • Assisting with prescribed burning under appropriate supervision while following Ft. Benning’s guidelines and procedures.
  • Assisting with selecting and marking trees for sale, thinning, or disease control for designated timber stands.
  • Assisting with nuisance wildlife control.
  • Collecting, recording, and summarizing data, including those pertaining to forest inventory, threatened and endangered species, and game wildlife species.
  • May work in duded impact areas with an explosive ordinance escort.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must be willing to report to work at Fort Benning, Georgia daily.
  • Must be capable and willing to do physical labor in often extreme high and low temperatures and high humidity.
  • Must be willing to work hard as part of a team.
  • Must be capable of taking directions from superiors.
