Job Description:

Katahdin Forest Management, a division of Acadian Timber, has an immediate opening for an Operations & Planning Forester based in Millinocket, Maine. The primary area of responsibility will be managing activities in our 100,000+/- acre Telos unit west of Baxter State Park but will also include work around the Millinocket area. In addition to managing the Telos unit, the position will work closely with our New Brunswick staff to assist with the planning and field verification of future harvest units across the entire ownership. Approximately 70% of the time will be dedicated to harvest operations and 30% will be focused on planning functions, although this will vary throughout the year.

 

Overview of Primary Responsibilities:

• Planning, administration and record keeping for all aspects of harvesting operations, including; harvest layout, inspections, merchandising, post-harvest inventory, road construction & maintenance projects.

• Planning, administration and record keeping for other forest management activities including: herbicide applications, planting, PCT, and general property management.

• Utilizing GIS and other tools to assist with planning and field reconnaissance of future harvest units.

• Ensuring KFM remains in compliance with all laws and regulations, including the Conservation Easement, Outcome Based Forestry and SFI certification.

• Maintaining exceptional relationships with Internal and External Customers.

• Utilize GIS and handheld digital tools to assist in harvest and property management record keeping.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry. Associates degree in Forestry will be considered based on experience.

• Preferred 2-4 yrs of Forestry / Harvest Operations experience

• Currently or eligible to become a Maine Licensed Forester

• Strong computer technology and GIS skills

• Competency and commitment to safety and environmental standards

• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

• Physically fit and willingness to cope with adverse field and weather conditions

• Valid driver’s license
