Job Description:

This position is responsible for day-to-day operations on the Okaloacoochee Slough Wildlife Management Area and is heavily field oriented. Field work will consist of a mixture of land management tasks and wildlife surveys and will include equipment and infrastructure maintenance. Responsibilities include chemically and mechanically treating invasive vegetation, preparing firebreaks, prescribed burning, native plantings, mowing, disking, and tree trimming throughout the area. Applicant will also complete wildlife surveys such as camera trap surveys, bat acoustic surveys, crested caracara surveys, aerial deer surveys, Christmas bird count, general taxonomic inventories, and opportunistic observations. Once surveys are completed, incumbent will log the recorded data in ArcMap to be used for an annual report for each survey type.

Qualifications:

Level of Education: Bachelor’s degree with a major in one of the biological sciences.

 

Must have the ability to operate specialized equipment, have strong organizational skills, and be experienced in accurately collecting and organizing field data. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are preferred. Must be able to work as part of a team and must be able to work independently. Must have the ability to navigate using GPS units and aerial maps. Must be in good physical condition and able to work outside in the South Florida environment year-round. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and walk or stand for extended time periods.

Miscellaneous:

Required to have/obtain and maintain a State of Florida driver’s license and reliable transportation to/from the job site.

Salary:
$18.77 an hour, (40 hours per week; 1920 hours a fiscal year)
