Reports To: Director of Outreach and Development and Executive Director 

 

Position Overview: The Outreach and Development Coordinator will work under direction of the Director of Outreach and Development to implement the Outreach and Development plan of FRk. This includes all work related to maintaining a funding base for the organization and conducting outreach communications to support fundraising and programmatic work. Occasional weekend and evening work will be required throughout the year. 

 

This position will primarily be responsible for the following duties:

Fulfilling the Outreach and Recruitment requirements of “Flow Restoration in the Lower Flint River” project funded primarily by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, including, but not limited to:

  • Development of informational materials regarding federal, state, academic, and FRk programs available to agricultural and timber producers to restore drought flows. 
  • Dissemination of educational materials online and in-person. 
  • Recruitment of agricultural and timber producers into programs.
  • Tracking and reporting successes and failures for project metrics. 
  • Planning and execution of outreach events.

 

This position will secondarily be responsible for the following duties:

Assisting in the completion of Outreach and Development strategy for FRk, including, but not limited to:

  • Generation of social media and advertising content. 
    • Assistance in planning and staffing fundraising events. 
    • Assistance in drafting grant proposals. 
    • Assistance in recruiting members and donors to FRk. 
    • Assistance in development of annual fundraising plan. 
    • Give public presentations as directed. 
    • Attending and reporting at meetings of the Board of Directors as requested.
    • Occasional assistance to administrative staff, the Riverkeeper/Executive Director, and field staff.

Desired Education & Experience: 4-year degree; 1-2 years.

Qualifications:

A passion for the restoration and protection of the Flint River. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team environment. Strong oral and written communication skills. Comfortable with public speaking. Competence in Microsoft Suite programs.  Experience, or willingness to learn graphic design. The preferred candidate will have a bachelors degree in a related field plus 1 to 2 years of job experience in a related field or position. The preferred candidate will have an at least rudimentary understanding of the “Riverkeeper” business model; plus rudimentary knowledge of the history of the movement, and the specific history of FRk. The preferred candidate will have training in first aid and water rescue. Preference will be given to the candidate with on-the-water field or recreational experience in the Flint River watershed, or other of Georgia’s watersheds. Candidates otherwise qualified should not view these preferential desires as a disincentives to apply. Ownership of or at least daily access to reliable transportation (personal vehicle; mileage reimbursable).  The ability to swim.  A valid driver's license.  The final pool of applicants (interviewees) will be subject to a background check and drug testing.

Physical Demands:

Utilizing computer equipment for long hours. Traveling to and participating in meetings, speaking events, and outreach events. Occasional travel in remote and difficult terrain by foot, boat, vehicle, and paddle craft, including occasional exposure to wet weather, cold weather, and considerably hot weather. Light lifting plus occasional lifting over 40 pounds. Occasionally handling small boats and paddle craft in large-river situations, with some areas containing whitewater up to Class III.

Location Detail:

Work Location: Remote within the Flint River Watershed, Georgia. Office space available in Albany, and while the offices of FRk are located there staff and Board are located throughout and slightly outside of the watershed. The Board and staff have established a required area of residence, which will serve several purposes: efficiency of time management and travel costs; establishment of relationships in the ‘river community’; and the relative health and mental well-being (morale) of staff. The required area is large, and is non-negotiable. Please inquire about specifics if you are asked to interview for the position.
Salary:
Salary: $55,000 annually paid as either 12 or 24 equal installments (employee’s choice). This compensation is comprised of an $8,650 per annum healthcare stipend (paid as payroll) and a $46,350 annual base salary. Separate COLA (both segments) and performance (base salary) raises are recommended each winter by the Executive Director to the Board President and are considered by the full Board each March. Raises, if any, are implemented 1 April of each year. The healthcare salary segment (again, paid as payroll) is utilized at the employee’s discretion and is fully taxable, indistinguishable on state and federal filings from regular salary.

Benefits: Flint Riverkeeper (FRk) deposits 3% of each employee’s total compensation (‘salary’ segment plus ‘healthcare’ segment) to a self-directed 401k plan each pay period, no match required. Employees may contribute up to the legal personal limit in addition to the employer contribution. A generous and very flexible leave package is in place that includes: paid vacation, sick, bereavement, medical and family, and by using creative combinations parental leave. Paid holidays include New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the following day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, plus 2 ‘floating’ personal holidays. Approved business expenses and mileage are reimbursed monthly. A monthly cell phone/connectivity stipend is paid.  Employees have their own company VISA credit card which helps to minimize reimbursables and associated record keeping. Additional ‘intangibles’ include the ability (indeed, expectation) to telecommute, plus the fact that the Flint River watershed is one of great beauty populated by some truly wonderful and committed citizens, including the Board, staff, and members of FRk.  Outdoor recreation opportunities are truly stellar.
