Job Description: 
The Jones Center at Ichauway invites applications for the Outreach and Education Assistant
Coordinator. The Assistant Coordinator role will interface regularly with Center guests. This position will carry
the expectation of leadership in key Outreach & Education Program initiatives and requires the ability to plan,
host, and inform University students and natural resource professionals. This position will report to the
Outreach & Education Coordinator.

Duties: 

  • Assists the Outreach & Education Coordinator with visiting groups from planning to execution, with the expectation of leading a portion of the Center’s visiting groups following adequate training
  • Coordination of relevant Center Research and Conservation staff involvement for field tours, development of visiting group agendas, and communication with visiting group point-of-contacts
  • Deliver classroom and field-based content on topics such as the property’s history, land management objectives, longleaf pine ecology, seasonal wetlands, and the Center’s prescribed fire program
  • Coherently and accurately communicate the ongoing research of the Center at a broad level to practicing professionals and university students
  • Assistance with outreach publications and product development
  • Assistance with Open House planning and execution, as well as internal professional development programming
  • Occasional assistance with off-site outreach events and/or representation of the Center at relevant professional events/conferences
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • B.S. degree in ecology, conservation biology, natural resources, wildlife science, forestry, aquatic sciences, or a related field)
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience in a natural resource or ecology-related field OR a M.S. in ecology, conservation biology, natural resources, wildlife, forestry, aquatic sciences, or a related field plus at least 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Demonstrate excellent oral communication skills, public speaking experience
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • A desire to foster a positive workplace culture
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States 
     

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Familiarity with Southeastern Coastal Plain ecosystems, more specifically longleaf pine, prescribed fire, and longleaf pine-associated wildlife species
  • Instructional experience (formal or informal educator, University teaching assistant, Extension professional, etc.)
  • Project management experience

The Jones Center is located on Ichauway, a 30,000-acre property in southwestern Georgia between
Albany and Bainbridge. The Center’s research, education, and conservation programs focus on ecology and
natural resource management. Ichauway contains 18,000 acres of longleaf pine woodlands, 1,000 acres of
wetlands, and 25 miles of stream and river ecosystems. An 18,000 square foot research laboratory houses
scientists’ laboratories, a central analytical laboratory, and two field labs. Further information can be found on

Salary:
Commensurate with academic and work experience ($50,000-$65,000)
