Job Description:

The Outreach Manager plays a pivotal role in advancing the mission and visibility of the organization, taking a lead in community service projects, community outreach, volunteer engagement, and data tracking for volunteers and their impact. This position holds key responsibilities in the following areas:

 

Community Service Leadership

• Leads community service projects from planning to execution.

• Coordinates the service aspects of the Wolf River Restoration Series, overseeing the successful completion of each project.

• Creates run-of-show timelines for volunteer service events.

• Collaborates with Director of Land Conservation and Director of Education to create a menu of conservation-based service options tailored to time of year, size of group, and ages of participants.

• Collects and tracks data on volunteer numbers, hours, and impacts.

 

Outreach Strategy Development

• Leads in creation and implementation of a comprehensive outreach plan to generate support, awareness, and involvement for the organization.

• Cultivates relationships with diverse communities across the Wolf River watershed to further support the Conservancy’s mission.

• Plans and coordinates landowner outreach events throughout the Wolf River watershed at least three times per year.

• Plans and schedules recreational and outdoor programming with volunteers and contractors throughout the Wolf River watershed.

• Identify events for outreach tabling opportunities and coordinates supplies and volunteers for those events.

• Collaborates with staff to distill concise information on all four pillars (Conservation, Education, Recreation, and Connection) and works with the Development Manager to create leave-behind documents for each.

 

Volunteer Coordination

• Executes the outreach plan to improve volunteer recruitment, experience, mobilization, and retention.

• Leads the Wolf River Greenway Ambassador program.

• Assists the Outreach Coordinator with the River Guide program.

• Manages the online volunteer platforms, such as Volunteer Odyssey and Volunteer Memphis.

• Helps the Director of Education in recruitment and retention of lead educational volunteers.

• Provides training opportunities for and ongoing support of volunteers.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

 

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation, environmental science, natural resources, city and regional planning, or other applicable field; 2 years of comparable experience. Prior experience and training may be substituted.

• Knowledge of land conservation, natural resource management, land use planning, agricultural and forestry, and/or best management practices.

• Outstanding written, verbal, and time management skills and attention to detail.

• Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office (word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail) and Adobe Suite products.

• Must be able to multitask projects and work with a diversity of people.

• Prior experience or training delivering community education programs.

• Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of the Conservancy.

• Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.

• Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as assigned (flexible schedule offered to offset weekend/evening work).

 

Physical Requirements*

 

• Outdoor work generally involves visits to properties where good physical condition, vision and hearing are required to walk and interpret landscapes and natural features. Properties may or may not have developed trail systems and generally consists of steep terrain. Tools may be heavy and all safety protocols shall be followed.

• Driving to sites requires use of personal vehicle (Note: mileage reimbursed).

• Must be capable of working for extended periods in harsh environments as needed including, but not limited to cold, damp conditions, hot humid conditions, exposure to hazardous plants and animals such as poison ivy, venomous snakes, biting insects, and other natural hazards

• Standing or sitting for long periods of time.

• Continuous verbal communication, visual activity to effectively work with others and continuous listening to answer telephone calls etc. Occasional reaching, lifting, pushing and/or pulling up to 50 pounds

$48,000 - $50,000
