Job Responsibilities

Sesquicentennial State Park, affectionately known to locals as "Sesqui," is a spacious, green getaway in the heart of the Sandhills region. Once you're immersed in the 1,400 acres of pines, camping sites, and nature trails you forget just how close you are to bustling, downtown Columbia, South Carolina.

Job Purpose and Duties:

Under general supervision, assists with the overall operation and maintenance of Sesquicentennial State Park. this position performs diversified duties as governed by general instruction, policies and standard operating procedures of the department. Assumes the responsibilities of the Park Manager in the absence of higher level employees.

  1. Assists with park administrative duties in accordance with department guidelines and procedures and planning of long and short-term goals.
  2. Collect and account for revenue and produce required reports.
  3. Instruct, supervise, and perform routine and preventative maintenance on grounds, buildings, and equipment to meet established standards.
  4. Manages assigned specific operations to include public use areas, retail operations, facilities, and assisting with the host program.
  5. Performs law enforcement activities within his/her authority and established policy.
  6. Maintains a safe work environment while performing the duties of the park's safety representative.
  7. Interprets the cultural and natural resources of the State Park Service to park visitors.
  8. Employee will be required to live in designated park housing to provide for security, safety, and emergency response.
Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in park management or a related field with two (2) years of park ranger experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking and standing on uneven terrain, crawling and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents and other material used in maintaining park facilities and grounds.
  • Position requires residence in agency-provided housing. Position requires flexible work schedule to include weekends and holidays.
  • Knowledge of park policies and regulations. Skill in the use of equipment necessary for maintenance activities. Ability to prepare reports and schedules. Ability to supervise and train subordinates. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Must posses a valid South Carolina Driver's license.

Full-time, 40 hours per week rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.

Residency in agency-provided housing is required. Employee will be required to sign a residency agreement, which outlines the expectations for rent and utilities.

$39,824.00 annually
