Along the far-reaching stretch of Grand Strand coastline, Myrtle Beach State Park sits nestled among oceanfront maritime forest. A quiet, and surprisingly green, escape from the otherwise bustling beach, the park provides educational opportunities, a nature trail and some of the best surf fishing South Carolina has to offer as well as stunning ocean views and another great fishing spot on Myrtle Beach pier.

As far as Myrtle Beach campgrounds go, the parks’ is among the most popular, providing guests with Myrtle Beach pier and shoreline access as well as cozy sites tucked away under the towering trees. If the Myrtle Beach campgrounds aren’t for you, overnight guests may also stay in one of six rental cabins, built by the CCC in the 1930s.

Job Purpose and Duties:

Under general supervision, assists with overall operation and maintenance of a State Park. Performs diversified duties as governed by general instruction, policies, and standard operating procedures of the Department. Assumes the responsibilities of the Park Manager in the absence of higher level employees.

1) Oversee safety program and practice & promote safety on the park.
2) Assists with park administrative duties in accordance with department policy and procedures and planning of long and short-term goals.
3) Collect and account for revenue and produce required reports.
4) Instruct, supervise and perform routine and preventative maintenance on grounds, buildings and equipment to meet established.
5) Practice and promote teamwork within the park and/or region, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.
6) Interprets the cultural and natural resources of the State Park Service to park visitors.
7) Performs park rule enforcement activities within his/her authority and established park policy.
8) Employee will be required to live in designated park housing to provide for security, safety and emergency response.

 

Actual Job Location: Myrtle Beach State Park

Full-time, 40 hours per week rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.

Residency in agency-provided housing is required. Employee will be required to sign a residency agreement, which outlines the expectations for rent and utilities.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
Associate degree in Park Management or related field with one (1) year of park ranger experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements:

1) Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking and standing on uneven terrain, crawling and working at height. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents and other materials used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. Must posses a valid South Carolina driver's license.
2) Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
3) Must posses a valid South Carolina drivers license.
