Nursery Assistant

Part-time job; 20-30 hours per week

Entry level position with potential for growth to a full-time salaried position after a 6 month evaluation period.

 

Beech Hollow Farm is an innovative wildflower nursery focused on growing plants for restoration and habitat creation projects. Its mission is to produce high quality, locally sourced plant material to restore the Georgia Piedmont. We are currently seeking an energetic individual with practical nursery/greenhouse experience to meet the needs of a growing native plant nursery. This is an excellent opportunity for someone starting off in the industry that would like to work in a beautiful environment, with a team dedicated to the promotion and preservation of Georgia’s amazing flora. Assist Greenhouse Manager as needed in daily tasks that will include (but are not limited to): Media mixture, seeding trays, up-potting, sexual and asexual plant propagation, winterizing, watering, sanitation, weed identification and control, pest ID and control, installation of plans/bed design, irrigation maintenance, weekend sales, loading and unloading plants to/from trailer, debris/compost operations, seed collection, cleaning, and packaging.

 

Part-time position - 20-30 hours per week

Qualifications:

Minimum High School diploma or GED

Additional relevant education areas including but not limited to: Conservation, Horticulture, Greenhouse Operations, Organic Farming, Ecology, Forestry, Master Gardener Program, Environmental Studies.

Understanding of organic farming or gardening practices preferred.

Proficient in general writing skills and record keeping; Proficient in basic computer skills, ability to communicate effectively by email.

Willing attitude; willing to learn, able to read, research, study to increase skill sets

Should have basic knowledge of working with garden hand tools (shovel, pick, hoe, rake, etc.)

Knowledge of basic safety protocols for hand tools, farm equipment.

Must be physically proficient to complete tasks effectively:

Must be able to handle working outside in the elements.

Must be able to stand for extended periods, as well as kneel for extended periods.

 

Must be able to lift 40 pounds; must understand basic body

 

mechanics to work smart and avoid injury

 

Must be willing and able to work weekends

Part-time position - 20-30 hours per week

$14/hour, 20-30 hours per week until otherwise agreed.

Regular and consistent scheduled work hour
