Job Description:

Our program includes:

·  Collaborative, cross-disciplinary teamwork uniting students and faculty from many research fields

·  Curriculum offering core courses in topics such as remote sensing, geovisualization and data mining

·  Experiential learning including a professional seminar, conference travel funding and geospatial externship

·  Prioritizing mental health, work/life balance, equity and social justice

·  Nutrient and Resource Modeling - Modeling of nutrient flows and downstream water quality impacts.

·  Estimating Greenhouse Gas Emissions Using Satellite Observations - Applying machine learning, statistical analysis, supercomputer simulations, satellite data, and atmospheric simulations to estimate the sources and evolution of carbon dioxide and methane.

·  Pest Spread Modeling - Using the Pest or Pathogen Spread (PoPS) model (popsmodel.org) to document dispersal patterns of corn earworm.

·  Geospatial Analysis of Tidal Flooding and Water Quality Impacts - Investigating water quality hazards driven by sea level rise.

·  Geospatial Computation and AI - Developing novel and scalable AI, computer vision, and deep learning techniques for monitoring and mapping natural resources using multi-sensor global earth observations.

·  Weather and Climate Observation Analysis - Informing real world weather and climate decision making using big data and machine learning.

Qualifications:

We welcome applicants with quantitative and computational backgrounds interested in pushing the boundaries of geospatial analytics and technology from a variety of perspectives, including social and behavioral sciences, natural resources and the environment, computer science, engineering, design, and more. We are especially committed to increasing the representation of students that have been historically underrepresented in U.S. higher education.

Salary:
$30,000 salary, benefits, and tuition waiver, renewable for up to four years
