Job Description:

I am seeking a PhD student interested in working on remote sensing science for forestry applications at the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, University of Georgia. The successful candidate will work on research assessing fire fuel loads and biomass in a mixed forest in the Southeastern United States utilizing lidar data. The assistantship is expected to start in Summer (June) or Fall (August) 2023.

Qualifications:

Applicants with an MF, MFR, MNR, or MS degree in forestry, natural resources, environmental resource management, or a closely related field; or a bachelor’s degree with relevant research or work experience are encouraged to apply. Programming and modeling are expected to be the core for data processing and generation of results during the development of the student research and dissertation; therefore, having previous knowledge of how to code in any programming language (including R) will be a plus. Excellent written and oral communication skills, interest in field data collection, and the ability to work independently are expected. A valid U.S. driver’s license is a plus.

The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources (http://www.warnell.uga.edu/) is the oldest forestry school in the Southern United States, counts with 69 faculty, 100 support staff, 250 undergraduates, and 225 graduate students. Salary:
$24,040/yr
Benefits:

The graduate student under this assistantship will receive an annual stipend of $24,040/yr for a 40% or 16 hours/week appointment, a full tuition waiver, and partial coverage of student health insurance.
