Job Description:

We are seeking a candidate for a Doctor of Philosophy assistantship in Applied Ecology at the Nebraska Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The student will develop large survey datasets to conduct analyses to evaluate the response of grassland bird communities on woody encroachment management in Nebraska’s Sandhills, a large (12 million acre) mixed-grass prairie system. The project will produce actionable science with results of this study informing management actions on grassland conservation and restoration. The successful candidate will be involved in fieldwork (bird and vegetation surveys). This is a collaborative project with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The successful candidate will work with a team of technicians, private landowners, university faculty, and federal and state biologists.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in biology, ecology, wildlife, or other relevant discipline. Successful candidates will have experience with survey study design and methods and strong quantitative skills. A willingness to learn, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic are essential.

Salary:
$27,000 per year (4 years) will be paid through a research assistantship. Tuition and health insurance will be covered by the project. Student is responsible for fees.
