Job Description:

The Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation at Virginia Tech is searching for a Ph.D.-level graduate student to conduct research regarding evaluation of our Forestry Extension Programs. The student should have a strong background and interest in forestry, Extension programming, or related natural resources field with an interest in program evaluation and utilizing surveys to determine program impacts. Our current Extension programs focus on loggers, forest landowners, and other forestry professionals throughout throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. We are seeking a student to develop a program evaluation and needs assessment for our logger training program (www.SHARPlogger.vt.edu) as well as other Forestry Extension programs for landowners and other professional audiences. Our goal is to quantify the impacts of these programs as well as to identify future educational needs. Interested students should contact Dr. Scott Barrett (sbarrett@vt.edu) for more information.

This full-time (20 hours per week) assistantship with stipend includes a waiver of academic-year tuition. In addition, Virginia Tech offers enhanced benefits to graduate students on assistantship by providing a partial subsidy for health insurance. Comprehensive and technology fees are the responsibility of the student. The student could start in Fall of 2022.
