Job Description:

Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Ph.D. student to join the Quantitative Forest Ecology Lab in the College of Forest Resources at Mississippi State University, located in Starkville, MS. Students with an interest in woody plant identification, tree species conservation, and forest ecology and management are encouraged to apply. 

Potential projects could occur across a diverse range of forest types in the southeastern United States, including bottomland hardwood, upland oak, or pine stands. The anticipated start date is August 16, 2024. Financial support is available, including a $25,000 stipend, tuition waiver, and health insurance.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • A valid U.S. driver’s license (required).
  • A background in forestry or natural resources (B.S. required, M.S. preferred).
  • The ability to conduct field work in demanding environments (required).
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical and communication skills (required).
  • An interest in learning to teach field-based courses, such as Dendrology (required).
  • A working knowledge of southeastern woody plant species identification (preferred).
