Employer University of Georgia Job Description, Responsibilities and Required Qualifications or Skills The University of Georgia, Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources (http://warnell.uga.edu/) is seeking qualified candidates for a PhD position beginning in January 2026. The research will examine distribution, habitat selection, and influence of hunter harvest on fox squirrels in Georgia, USA. The overall goal of the research is to provide information necessary for state agencies to make informed decisions regarding management of fox squirrels, including setting harvest regulations. The specific objectives are to use citizen science data to document the statewide distribution, use locality data to examine broad-scale habitat use and selection, and simulate harvest by relocating squirrels to determine the effects of hunter harvest on fox squirrel populations. Desirable skills and experience include collecting and processing images using remote cameras; ability to manage the project web site; developing habitat models; trapping and handling fox squirrels or similar-sized mammals, proficiency using GPS and GIS; and general knowledge of statistical modeling. Candidates must have a strong work ethic and the ability to successfully supervise field technicians. Field work will involve traveling away from campus for extended periods.
