Deadline: Tue, 03/19/2024 - 12:00pm Employer: THE JONES CENTER AT ICHAUWAY Job Field: Other Job Type: Full Time Location: Georgia Location Detail: Newton, Georgia Job Description: The Jones Center at Ichauway invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Scientist in Plant Ecology or Restoration Ecology. We seek to hire a colleague whose research addresses questions that improve understanding of the ecology of longleaf pine savanna plant communities, and address restoration concerns in this threatened, fire-maintained ecosystem. The successful candidate will integrate with the Jones Center’s growing research program concerning conservation of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. The position is permanent, full-time, funded 12 months every year, and located at the Jones Center at Ichauway in Newton, GA. Support for this position includes a full laboratory (including extensive herbarium and seedbank), office space, and funding for startup, operating and technician expenses. The incumbent will also receive funding to support graduate students co-advised with partner universities. Qualifications: Expertise in one or more of the following areas is preferred: community, restoration, fire, disturbance and wetland ecology, and other related fields. The candidate will be joining a collaborative research and education community, including Center scientists, university and agency collaborators, and regional stakeholders. The ability to apply scientific findings to regional conservation, restoration, and management priorities and communicate with stakeholder groups is preferred and will be facilitated. The candidate must have a Ph.D. and experience in plant and natural community identification, and field studies involving plant, conservation and/or restoration ecology. Experience in ecology and restoration of seasonal wetlands is also of interest. Desirable areas of research, restoration, and stakeholder outreach and education include community and ecosystem ecology, climate change, ecosystem management, ecological forestry, and conservation planning, broadly defined.
