Job Description:

The Fei lab in the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources at Purdue University invites applications for three post-doctoral associates in forest ecology supported by NSF and USDA. The specific research areas include: regional forest invasion dynamics, above and belowground (mycorrhizal) connections, and forest structure and ecosystem function (mainly carbon). The postdocs will have the opportunities to work directly with scientists in the USDA Forest Service, faculty members within and outside the department, and collaborators across other universities. The postdocs will also have the opportunities to develop their skills in sensing (proximal and remote) and analytics (stats and AI) by working with a vibrant community across multiple colleges in the Center for Digital Forestry.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: We seek highly motivated, well-organized individuals with strong quantitative skills to work in an interdisciplinary environment. Ideal candidates will excel in a fast-paced environment where the postdoctoral associates are given a leadership role of managing small groups of graduate students and undergraduates. A PhD in ecology, entomology, forestry, geography, or biology is required, along with expertise in modeling, big data analytics, and/or geospatial analysis. Experience with R/Python programming, GIS, remote sensing and other analytical tools are highly desirable. Ability to work with researchers across a variety of disciplines is required.

Miscellaneous:

Date of Appointment: August 2023 (earlier starting dates are possible). Review Date: Review will begin on May 8, 2023 and continue until the positions are filled. Duration of Appointment: Initial appointment is 12 months and will be renewed pending satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Salary:
Salary: $55,000 annual stipend plus health care benefits, negotiable based on experiences.
