Job Description:

The Geospatial Science team in the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture (ATCOFA) at Stephen F. Austin State University, part of the University of Texas System, is seeking to hire a Geospatial specialist with expertise in drone (Unmanned Aerial Systems) management skills and the ability to assist in a Land Surveying tract program. The ideal candidate will be interested in data analysis, especially with a growing drone and GIS/remote sensing program in Geospatial Science. The candidate must be familiar with ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and ERDAS Imagine and be able to navigate between these programs with GIS media. Use of drones and the FAA license are essential in the program working with large data sets at multiple ecological scales. The successful candidate must be self-motivated with demonstrated knowledge and experience in analytical software and GIS techniques and be capable of coauthoring manuscripts with a dynamic group termed the “Drone Squad” while assisting graduate students (M.S. and Ph.D. levels). Additional research opportunities will expand off of existing and developing data sets as part of long-term management of forestry and natural resource research and monitoring efforts. The successful applicant will receive full-time employment with a $60,000 annual salary plus benefits. The postdoctoral researcher will work directly with four ATCOFA faculty members: Dr. David Kulhavy, Walker Distinguished Professor, Dr. Daniel Unger, Nelson Distinguished Professor, Dr I-Kuai Hung, Minton Distinguished Professor, and Dr. Yanli Zhang, Cranford Distinguished Professor.

Qualifications:

· Possess a Doctoral degree in Remote Sensing/GIS/Surveying/Drones in Geospatial Science, Environmental Science, Forestry or Natural Resource Ecology.

· Possess strong organizational and communication skills.

· Ability to work independently, and with others in a fast-paced environment and manage small teams of assistants, as well as collaborate with other team members (i.e., co-supervise graduate students).

· Ability to design and supervise the implementation of research activities while applying best management practices in data management.

· Good publication record for career stage.

· Experience with GIS, remote sensing, drone software and surveying; and 3D modeling and printing along with the ability to utilize drone software (i.e. Pix4D, ERDAS Imagine, LiDAR, Agisoft).

· Advanced analytical skills including AI, machine learning and neural networks with the ability to visualize and interpret results and experience in writing manuscripts.
