Job Description:

Applications are invited for a full-time postdoctoral research scholar appointment to be held at the Department of Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Sciences at Oregon State University. Primary research focus is to estimate the effect of changing habitat conditions on the abundance, distribution, and dynamics of threatened and endangered avian and fish populations and use this information to develop decision support tools to aid in restoration and recovery planning. The position will primarily involve the analysis of large-scale, long-term monitoring data and the programing of simulation models with some potential for avian field research. Resulting research will directly inform real world management decision making.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. James Peterson in close collaboration with Dr. Adam Duarte and the US Forest Service Pacific Northwest Research Station.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have completed all of the requirements for their doctoral program (PhD or equivalent) in biological/ecological sciences or applied statistics, with demonstrated research accomplishments and publications in the primary research literature. Applicants should have the necessary skills and experience with sample design and the estimation of animal population parameters and should have interest and capabilities in the development of novel approaches to estimate and model population dynamics. Excellent command of the English language, quantitative analytical skills, and written and verbal communication skills are absolutely required. Special consideration will be given to candidates possessing one or more of the following knowledge and skills: spatial statistics, avian sampling and ecology, and Bayesian modeling techniques.

Miscellaneous:

Appointment: Appointments will be intended for a term of one (1) year, with the possibility for renewal of an additional year, based upon a satisfactory performance review. Salary ($47,000-54,000) and full benefits will be commensurate with qualifications of the successful applicants. Start date is negotiable but no later than January 2023 and preferably earlier.
