Job Description, Responsibilities and Required Qualifications or Skills

The Quinault Indian Reservation (QIR), located on Washington State’s scenic Olympic Peninsula, includes approximately 160k acres of timberland producing 47 million board feet annually. The Quinault Division of Natural Resources is seeking skilled Foresters to support the forest product harvest program.

Primary Functions
• Perform reconnaissance on mature timber stands and identify potential harvest units.
• Determine harvest boundaries in accordance with the Quinault Indian Reservation’s Forest Management Plan, including the identification of required Riparian Management Zones, Wetland Management Zones and other protection measures.
• Supervises 1-2 forestry technicians or directs contractors in unit preparation
• Identify operational requirements for harvesting, including recommended yarding systems, road developments and stream crossings.
• Design and implement timber cruises.
• Perform stumpage appraisals.
• Develop draft contracts, prospectuses, maps, and other timber sale-related documents.
• Communicate management objectives to Trust landowners and Tribal officials, drafts official correspondence.
• Provide input to all forest management activities as a member of the QDNR Interdisciplinary Team.

Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree (BS) with major study in forest management or other related natural resource field, plus one year of applicable forestry work experience. A combination of relevant education and related work experience, with the ability to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined in the job description, may be considered.


The successful candidate must be able to pass a federal background check and drug screening; Must hold or have the ability to obtain a valid Washington State driver’s license; Must have and maintain the ability to be insured under QIN auto insurance. Candidates must have the ability to work outdoors in inclement weather and rugged terrain.
