As a Procurement Forester, you will be responsible for managing and overseeing the procurement of timber and other forest products for our company's operations. Your primary focus will be on sourcing timber sustainably, negotiating pricing with suppliers, oversight of scaling practices and ensuring efficient and cost-effective procurement processes. This role requires a strong understanding of timber size and quality, forestry practices, supplier management, and sustainable sourcing principles. Being hands-on and working with scalers and trucking and equipment operators will be an important part of this position. Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in forestry, natural resources management, or a related field. • Proven experience in timber procurement, forest management, or related roles within the forestry industry are desired but not required. • Strong knowledge of forestry practices, sustainable sourcing principles, and applicable regulations and certifications. • Excellent negotiation and contract management skills, with the ability to establish and maintain supplier relationships. • Proficiency in using forest inventory and planning software, GIS tools, and other relevant technology. • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, conduct financial analysis, and make data-driven decisions. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in all procurement processes and documentation. • Willingness to travel to supplier sites, company operations, and industry events as needed. Miscellaneous: Gloster Forest Products, LLC (GFP) is constructing a state-of-the-art lumber mill located in Gloster, Mississippi. The new mill will require over 1 million tons of timber annually to produce approximately 250 million board feet of lumber. The facility will be located on 65 acres (about the area of a large shopping mall) and represents a corporate investment of over $200 million, creating 131 jobs and supporting an additional 200 indirect jobs when operating at full capacity.
