Job Description:

The successful candidate will serve as an instructor. The candidate will teach several courses in the PARK program (6 classes) at the undergraduate level on topics such as management, leadership, planning, programming, health, or interpretation according to applicant background and expertise. The successful candidate will be expected to help develop, promote, and grow the PARK program and develop collaborative relationships with external park and recreation partners such as state and federal agencies, community agencies and planners, non-profit organizations, and private industry. They may also serve on graduate student thesis/dissertation committees but will not have their own research program.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

An earned doctoral degree in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism or closely related field is required at the time of employment. Candidates with a M.S. degree in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism or closely related field with 5+ years of experience specific to the position will also be considered. We seek applicants with deep knowledge of park and recreation programs and the capacity to immediately deliver high quality and innovative teaching in the PARK major. The candidate is expected to have outstanding communication, collaboration, and relationship building skills. The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.

Desired Qualifications

• A demonstrated record of quality teaching.

• Experience working with/in federal, state, or community park and recreation agencies.

• Experience developing collaborative relationships with external partners such as state and federal agencies, community agencies and planners, non-profit organizations, or private industry.

• Experience and commitment to working with diverse populations and underrepresented groups.

• Experience teaching community engagement or applied experience courses.

• Experience in a Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism related professions (COAPRT) accredited academic program and/or the NRPA Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) and Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE) programs.

• Trainings and certifications that would allow credentialing of students (i.e. Interpretation, guiding, wilderness first aid, LNT, etc.)
