Job Description:

The Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS) Program Specialist II - CWDG provides critical support to the TAMFS Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG) program. The position completes education and outreach programs to promote CWDG, provides wildfire mitigation planning coordination and leadership as a SME. Prepares and completes reports and assigned programs to ensure program quality. Knowledgeable of all aspects of TAMFS wildfire mitigation and prevention programs.

 

Responsibilities:

 

-Provides education and outreach programs to promote Community Wildfire Defense Grant program to eligible local government agencies, regional planning councils and non-profit NGOs.

 

-Delivers technical assistance to communities to determine eligibility, identifying risk, assisting communities and partners preparing applications and providing guidance to communities on community wildfire protection plan development.

 

-Assists in CWDG administration and oversight of sub-grants or pass-through grants, including monitoring for compliance with all applicable Federal rules and regulations, site visits to assess project performance and final evaluation of project accomplishments.

 

-Completes CWDG program-related performance, accomplishment reporting and data collection.

 

-Other duties as assigned.

 

***This position is subject to travel with overnight stays.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

 

Required Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in Natural Resources, Emergency Management, Fire Science, Urban Planning, or closely related field.

 

Preferred Education: Master's degree in Natural Resources, Emergency Management, Fire Science, Urban Planning or closely related field.

 

Required Experience: Minimum of four (4) years full-time work experience.

 

Preferred Experience: Four (4) years full-time work experience with two (2) years full-time work experience completing risk assessments, community risk reduction plans or fire inspections with a recognized wildland fire agency, fire department, emergency management or response organizations.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

Required Knowledge: Working knowledge of collaboration methods

 

Preferred Knowledge: Working knowledge of GIS applications. FAC concepts, CWPP, NFPA wildfire standards, ICC wildfire codes and FEMA HMP and HMGP.

 

Required Skills: Time management. Outstanding interpersonal communication skills

 

Required Abilities: Ability to complete presentations. Operate GIS applications. Ability to conduct education events. Complete risk assessments. Overnight travel. Multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

 

Preferred Abilities: Coordinate complex wildland fire mitigation programs. Exhibits leadership with partners and employees in assigned program area. Shows superior customer service delivery

 

Registrations, Certifications and Licenses:

 

Requird: Valid Class C Texas Driver's license

Preferred: NFPA Certified Wildfire Mitigation Specialist, or NWCG Firefighter Type 2 or TCFP Basic Fire Inspector
