Job Description, Responsibilities and Required Qualifications or Skills

OVERVIEW:

This position will lead hunter and target shooter recruitment, retention and reactivation (R3) efforts that are consistent with the Georgia R3 Action Plan. The coordinator will keep the Plan up to date and available for broad consumption and use. Coordinator will work with the partners of the Georgia R3 Initiative (Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Georgia Chapter of Safari Club International, Ducks Unlimited, and the National Wild Turkey Federation) and all stakeholders to develop innovative goals, set clear objectives and achieve measurable results. 

The coordinator will serve as the main point of contact for all stakeholders and direct efforts to expand the success of R3 programs. This includes staying current on national and regional R3-related data and initiatives. It also includes supervision of staff and building partnerships with volunteers, landowners and other R3 practitioners. The coordinator will grow a strong, productive stakeholder community and support partners in their efforts to expand R3 impact.

Evaluating R3 efforts is a critical component for success; the position must focus on strategies to track and evaluate R3 program sponsors, mentors, and participants as well in conducting programming. Thus, the coordinator position will require skills related to requesting, analyzing, and interpreting data as well as leading efforts to adapt current programs based on those findings. It is imperative that the process for achieving R3 goals is data driven. Advising and encouraging partners to evolve programming according to data and research is key, thus the coordinator position will require skills in translating scientific conclusions and program goals to various audiences. 

The coordinator will publicize and/or facilitate the publication of Georgia R3 Initiative efforts through media outlets. Fundraising efforts are essential to innovative growth and are an important position responsibility. Strong candidates will have a balanced background with familiarity with event management, program operations, community development and grant administration and funding. The position will be located at the Georgia Wildlife Federation’s Alcovy Conservation Center in Covington, GA. However, remote work may be accommodated.


EXPECTED RESULTS:
  • Improve statewide R3 strategy, program design, and outcome tracking efforts
  • Improve sources of information and assistance for new participants
  • Improve skills and training for participants based upon known research
  • Create a network of experienced participants willing to teach new participants
  • Improve participation at shooting sports facilities and increase access 
  • Improve planning and cooperation among R3 partners
  • Engage current hunters and shooting sports participants
  • Increase acceptance of hunting and increase awareness of its’ link to conservation
  • Improve social media outputs to non-hunting participants
  • Work with GA R3 Initiative Steering Committee members in support of R3 initiatives
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The coordinator will develop prioritized strategic goals, objectives and programs for R3 that are in alignment with the Georgia Hunting Action Plan and other R3 best practices guided by national resources including the National Hunting and Shooting Sports R3 Practitioner’s Guide of the Council to Advance Hunting and the Shooting Sports. 

Evaluate the Geogia R3 Action Plan

  • Work with Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the Steering Committee, and Georgia stakeholders to evaluate and update the state Action Plan as necessary.
  • This plan should continue to identify current Georgia R3 programs; assess program effectiveness; inventory programs within the Outdoor Recreation Adoption Model (ORAM); identify gaps in the ORAM; and develop action items that adapt, improve, and expand programs to meet specific measurable goals.

Build Collaborative Partnerships

  • Develop and maintain strong, productive stakeholder relationships
  • Identify organizations from traditional and non-traditional backgrounds to engage with
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the members of Georgia sportsmen and women groups; hunting, conservation, other outdoors-related industry; and community development organizations for the purpose of fostering collaborative projects to recruit, retain and reactivate hunters and shooters
  • Assist in developing and coordinating communication plans designed to maintain positive relationships with the public, program stakeholders
  • Develop partnership strategies and collaborations that leverage program funding, resources, and/or operational capacity
  • Solve problems by coordinating actions across organizational lines and departments
  • Host R3 Steering Committee Meetings and annual Georgia R3 Summits 

Expand Capacity and Evaluate R3 Efforts

  • Identify financial support for existing R3 efforts through grant applications
  • Supervise Academics Afield Coordinators, evaluate the program, improve and expand 
  • Request, gather, analyze, and interpret data to evaluate R3 efforts in Georgia
  • Track and evaluate Georgia R3 program sponsors, mentors, and participants
  • Lead efforts to adapt programs or develop new ones based on findings

Create and Maintain a High-Performance Environment

  • Define goals and/or required results at the beginning of each performance period and gain acceptance of ideas by creating a shared vision
  • Communicate regularly with supervisor and stakeholders on progress toward defined goals and/or required results, providing specific feedback and initiating corrective action when defined goals and/or required results are not met
  • Initiate discussions on a regular basis with supervisor and stakeholders to review relations climate, identify issues, and suggest solutions
  • Recognize contributions and celebrate accomplishments
  • Motivate others to improve quantity and quality of work performed and provide training and development opportunities as appropriate
Required Skills
  • Avid outdoorsperson with hunting/shooting experience
  • Knowledge of hunting and shooting sports programs, training theory, instructional design and program management
  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques (e.g., articles, blog posts, social media, podcasts, video)
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources, leadership and coordination 
  • Ability to evaluate training materials, write reports, and monitor budgets
  • Ability to create and conduct presentations, seminars, trainings, and promotional events
  • Experience using MS Outlook and Office, Video Conferencing and other related software
  • Ability to stay on task, track progress, meet goals, and keep morale high
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments with multiple staff 
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers from a variety of different organizations and backgrounds
