Summary

Plans, organizes, implements, and administers a variety of recreation programming and athletic activities offered by the City of Gainesville Park and Recreation Board for the leisure and enjoyment of citizens.

Job Duties

Plans, organizes, coordinates, and administers various indoor and outdoor recreational activities, special events, day and specialty camps, and athletic programs appropriate for all segments of the population;

Schedules facilities, prepares fee schedules and application forms for activities and programs;

Plans and initiates marketing and publicity for all programs under jurisdiction;

Serves as the coordinator and liaison between various groups including the Youth/Teen Councils, Committees, Collaborative Agencies, Instructors, school representatives and Parks and Recreation;

Recruits, interviews, recommends hiring, trains and supervises volunteer and paid staff for day camps, specialty camps, after-school programs, youth and teen programs and special events, athletic programs, etc.;

May serve as a Camp Director; coordinate and set-up of daily activities and field trips, requisition, procure and distribute equipment and supplies, monitor events and evaluate programs for effectiveness;

Maintain computerized record system to track activities, participation figures, financial status; prepares reports; prepares and distributes activity schedules and notices;

Assists other staff in planning, coordinating, and supervising a variety of other recreational programming and activities and special events;

Researches and prepares written and oral reports concerning various activities and events, including annual reports and special reports as necessary;

Confers with public, conducts meetings, disseminates information, receives and handles complaints and problems in an effective and customer friendly manner;

Attends workshops, seminars, conferences and other professional development opportunities in order to keep abreast of trends and changes in the field;

Performs other related duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Administration, Education, or related field;

Previous experience in the field of Public Recreation and/or related field;

Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the minimum level of qualifications stated above.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Valid Class C Driver's license and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR);

CPR and First Aid Certification desired;

Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) desired;

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of recreation principles, dynamics of programming and principles of community-based recreation programs;

Knowledge of group recreational planning, supervision and rules and regulations of various recreational activities;

Knowledge of public relations practices and principles;

Knowledge of 1st aid, CPR procedures and techniques;

Ability to plan, coordinate, supervise and monitor various recreational activities and facilities;

Ability to deal courteously and diplomatically with public and participants;

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
