Job Description:

Our Forestry Division, North Sierra Region of California, has an opening for a qualified Regional Reforestation Manager who is responsible for all reforestation activities on the Company’s timberlands in Shasta, Lassen, Plumas, Tehama, Butte Nevada, Yuba, Placer, and Sierra Counties. This position will lead a group of reforestation professionals charged with establishing and maintaining high-quality reforestation projects across hundreds of thousands of acres in the Northern Sierras. Work will be located on the Almanor, Lassen, Stirling, and Tahoe districts, and requires living in one of the surrounding communities.

About the Position

  • Fast-paced, dynamic operating environment focused on quality, cost control, safety and long-term productivity of company timberlands, firmly-rooted in a teamwork environment
  • Overall management of each district’s reforestation program to produce cost-effective, successful conifer reforestation projects
  • Effectively manage and negotiate contracts for reforestation activities including cone collection, seedlings, tree planting, vegetation management, site preparation, and thinning with focus on cost
  • Evaluate each district’s reforestation projects for survival success, cost effectiveness, and staff performance
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with local (County Ag) and State (DPR, water quality) agencies
  • Recruit, train, and maintain quality staff with focus on career development and long-term productivity
  • Management of a successful reforestation program with an eye for quality control and improvements to keep
  • Pace with a changing operating environment
  • Work closely with District/Regional managers in coordinating reforestation activities as they relate to overall district goals
Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • 10 years’ experience managing a reforestation program that includes cone collection, seed bank management, sowing, planting administration, pre-commercial thinning, and extensive vegetation management
  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, Agriculture, or a related field preferred
  • Licensed Pest Control Advisor preferred, with knowledge of MISPA laws
  • Working knowledge of permitting and reporting requirements related to pesticide applications in California
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work with regional managers, district managers and district forestry staff
  • Excellent communication skills, self-motivation, and strong work ethic
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and GIS-based software programs
