Candidate will work remotely from the Columbus, Georgia or Auburn, Alabama area, with the ability to travel to the Land Trust office in Piedmont, Alabama periodically.
Job Description:

The Regional Stewardship Manager (RSM) in the Columbus, Georgia area is a full-time professional position responsible for managing the stewardship needs of the properties in their assigned region, including visiting landowners, working with other staff on new projects and on annual monitoring of Properties. Experience with land management, including forestry practices and agricultural best management practices, and in grant writing is preferred. Applicants must be adept at communication, problem solving, talking with the public, resolving any violations and issues that may arise, and facilitating landowner relationships. All activities must be conducted by methods in compliance with the Land Trust Alliance Accreditation requirements and Standards and Practices. 

Duties

As a small nonprofit organization, all of our staff members are often asked to assist across departments and job descriptions to help accomplish our mission. The following is a non-exhaustive list of the primary duties of a Regional Stewardship Manager:

• Monitor protected land through field and aerial monitoring and address any follow-up items that result from monitoring, including reserved rights requests, property transfers etc.

• Draft property baseline ecological condition reports, condition reports and land management plans.

• Provide land management insight to both landowners and other staff members.

• Research grant opportunities for both the Land Trust as well as landowners

• Maintain communications with landowners and donors. Proactively work to cultivate relationships with landowners.

 

 

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree (Masters preferred). Must have degree in natural resource management, geography or related science (biology, environmental science, forestry, agronomy, ecology, etc.). A background in land management is preferred. 

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the demonstrated ability to address problems, collaborate, resolve conflict, and cultivate diverse partnership, landowner, and donor relationships and to promote the mission of the land trust.

• Field skills for navigating, surveying, and mapping landscapes and features, including knowledge of GPS and handheld devices.

• Ability to hike, perform physical activities, carry a backpack and equipment, and work independently outdoors in varied weather conditions.

• Extensive knowledge of standard computer software including MS Word and Excel, but also ArcGIS. 

• Practical problem-solving and organizational skills with attention to detail for record keeping.

• Understand conservation practices and natural resource preservation.

• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel at times

• Must be able to be insured under our corporate auto policy

• Access to a dependable vehicle

• Ability to work independently and manage time and multiple activities while delivering quality results.

• Ability to research grant opportunities for both the Land Trust and landowners. 

• Position requires occasional evening and weekend work. Holiday and leave time during the months of November and December may be limited.

 

 

Salary:
$35,000 - $45,000 per year (DOE)
